Adult Intermediate – B1
The main objective of the intermediate French class is to develop strong communication skills by reinforcing concepts learned at the beginner levels and mastering new grammatical structures—such as past tenses, the conditional mood, and relative pronouns… Students also broaden their thematic vocabulary related to everyday life, current events, and more abstract topics. In addition, the course offers an opportunity to explore Francophone cultures through media, literature, and class discussions, deepening both linguistic and cultural understanding. As always, we recommend that you start with the Fall-Part I class and continue on with Parts II and III in the Winter and Spring.
If you wish to join this class after the Fall trimester, you must receive permission from our Director of Education via email at [email protected]. If you have had some prior experience or instruction in French, we suggest you take our Placement Test to determine which class would best fit your needs. Download the Placement Test here.
Students begin to develop conversational skills enabling them to understand and discuss:
- An interview with a chanteuse; introducing someone important in their life
- A discussion on professional courtesy; feminism and etiquette; describing good manners
- A conversation to organize a party; a TV report on an artist; talk about a style of music; describe a work of art
- A discussion on learning a foreign language; discuss your native language and the languages spoken in your country
- Favorite leisure activity; the conservation of historic and cultural patrimony … and more
