Adult Advanced – B2/C1
The Advanced level 2 class is designed to deepen students’ understanding of French language and to improve their weaker areas. Students are engaged in reading and listening comprehension, writing and speaking through collective, individual, or group activities. Regular exercises allow them to develop improvisational skills as well as the ability to present coherent arguments and to express themselves fluently and logically.
NOTE: If you wish to join this class after the Fall trimester, you must receive permission from our Director of Education via email at [email protected]. If you have had some prior experience or instruction in French, we suggest you take our Placement Test to determine which class would best fit your needs. Download the Placement Test here.
At this level, students are engaged in a more dynamic experience of the French language, exchanging ideas, presenting opinions, examining real-world events – always expanding their vocabulary, and reviewing grammatical concepts to reinforce what has been previously learned.
Students practice debating different perspectives and building contradictory arguments, both verbally and in writing, with confidence and fluency. Group discussions build and sharpen conversational skills.
The course also promotes cultural immersion by exploring French products such as cheese and wine as well as their classification systems (AOP and AOC), with a focus on the role of geography, climate, and “terroir” in shaping these products. Students engage in real-world materials such as press articles, radio interviews and documentaries, expanding their vocabulary and familiarizing them with typical French expressions.
Every 2-3 months the class works on an in-depth study of a French film, analyzing its historical context, setting, character development, and technical aspects. Students are encouraged to offer different viewpoints and engage in lively debates, fostering critical thinking and developing contradictory arguments.
